Don Valley CCS scheme leads race for European Commission funds

The UK’s Don Valley Power carbon capture and storage project in Yorkshire is the frontrunner to win a share of €1.3 billion ($1.59 billion) to €1.5 billion in funding from the European Commission.

Poland’s Belchatow is in second place, while Air Liquide’s Green Hydrogen project in the Netherlands is in third place.

The EC gave the rankings in an interim report on its NER300 programme, which will auction off 300 million European Union carbon credits to raise money for large-scale CCS and cutting-edge renewable energy projects. Final award decisions are due to be made by the end of the year.
