Increase in UK drilling

UK drilling activity showed a healthy increase during the second quarter of the year, according to a new report.

A total of 18 exploration and appraisal wells were spudded off the UK in the three months to 30 June, according to consultancy Deloitte.

That is up 64% on the same period in 2011 and the first quarter this year, Deloitte said.

“We traditionally experience a rise in activity during the summer months... this year’s spur of activity reflects a higher year-on-year increase,” said managing director of Deloitte’s Petroleum Services Group, Graham Sadler, who partly attributed the increase to tax sweeteners.
