MMHE and Technip eye Malikai

Close of play: Shell is believed to be finalising details for the EPC contract that will see the construction of the first tension-leg platform in Malaysian waters

Malaysia Marine & Heavy Engineering (MMHE) and France’s Technip are close to winning a prized contract from Shell for the first tension-leg platform to be installed in Malaysian waters.

Anglo-Dutch supermajor Shell is understood to be finalising the details before awarding a letter of intent this week to the duo for the engineering, procurement and construction of the anchored ­production facility for its deep-water Malikai development.

The contract award is expected to be concluded in October for the large production facility that will boast an 11,000-tonne topsides and a 12,000-tonne hull.

Construction on the TLP will take place at MMHE’s Pasir ­Gudang yard in Johor, Malaysia, with delivery projected to be about three years after the final contract award.
