TAP-Nabucco pipeline decision due mid-2013

Azerbaijan and BP are actively considering both the Nabucco West and Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) proposals to carry future ­Azeri gas to Europe and will make a decision by the middle of next year, according to the Energy & Industry Ministry in Baku.

The statement by the ministry followed earlier comments by ­Energy & Industry Minister Natik Aliyev describing Nabucco West as “the best” of the two options.

The minister “is not directly involved in the pipeline route selection process, and he supports and respects any decision made by the Shah Deniz consortium”, the statement said.

Last month, the BP-led consortium developing the Shah Deniz 2 gas field in the Caspian Sea ­selected Nabucco West as the second of two options to carry Shah Deniz gas by the end of this decade.
