Petrobras poised to test pioneer subsea system

Brazilian state-controlled outfit Petrobras has completed topsides modification work on the P-37 production platform, and expects to test a pioneer subsea oil-water separator system at the Marlim field in the Campos basin later in the third quarter.

The prototype for the subsea separation system was developed by FMC Technologies in partnership with Petrobras research and development division, Cenpes.

“Petrobras has finished reconfiguration work at its topsides facility, and they are now proceeding to commission the subsea separation system. We understand it will take another month or so for it to be operational,” said FMC Technologies chief executive John Gremp.

The subsea processing equipment is designed to allow for a significant reduction on the amount of water that is produced and reaching the platform — eventually simplifying the entire production system…
