Nigerian pirates strike to highten threat alert

NIGERIAN pirates last weekend alerted industry security managers of the continuing threat posed to oil workers, even in the less exposed offshore environment with an armed attack on an unescorted crew change vessel MV Terra serving Eni’s Clough Creek flowstation in Bayelsa State.

One worker was reported drowned after jumping into the Tarabora Creek, while two others were shot and killed, two more wounded with another two reported missing, according to a spokesperson for the military Joint Task Force, which was patrolling the Egbema-Angalabiri waterway.

It is uncertain whether the attack was a simple robbery or a kidnapping attempt and no statement of confirmation has been issued by the Italian company.
