Tuscaloosa door shuts

Stone Energy is exiting the emerging Tuscaloosa Marine Shale play in Mississippi and Louisiana before drilling a well.

The US junior is offering up nearly 21,000 net acres — close to 50,000 gross — in eastern Wilkinson County, Mississippi to other operators there.

Stone had never publicly talked about its leasing efforts and had not participated in any wells targeting the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale.

Sources indicate that Stone had begun chasing the frontier liquids play with an eye towards accumulating as much as 100,000 acres.
