Jurong drillship on course

CONSTRUCTION of the first Brazilian drillship to be supplied to Sete Brasil by Jurong Aracruz has already begun in Singapore, writes Gareth Chetwynd.

“We will start building components in Singapore, but integration will take place here in Brazil,” said Jurong Aracruz president Martin Cheah, speaking at an event to celebrate signing of the contract between the new shipyard and Sete Brasil.

Sete Brasil sources insist this first rig will be built in compliance with the 55% local content rule, which rises to 65% for later units.

The Petrobras board is also expected to approve next week nine remaining charter agreements, including four drillships where Odebrecht Oleo e Gas is a partner, and five with Etesco.
