Kurds resume crude exports at 100,000 bpd for 'goodwill'

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has resumed oil ­exports at 100,000 barrels per day, describing the move as a goodwill gesture aimed at convincing the central government to pay foreign companies for the crude sales, writes Nassir Shirkhani.

“Despite initial reluctance from the producing international oil companies in the region to export without guarantees of payment, the companies have been persuaded to restart exporting at 100,000 bpd,’’ the KRG Oil Ministry said.

“This is a goodwill initiative and we sincerely hope that the federal authorities in Iraq respond positively, making all the outstanding payments due to the international oil companies and implementing all the measures agreed upon between the KRG and the federal government.”

The semi-autonomous region will sustain the export levels for August, but will halt sales if Baghdad does…
