Woodside eyes on a design contest for Laverda field

Woodside Petroleum is clearing the decks for a design competition between providers of floating production units to help it home in on a preferred concept for the Laverda oilfield off Western Australia.

Woodside has previously indicated that a standalone floating production, storage and offloading vessel was on the cards for Laverda, but sources said the operator is also open to other floating production units.

In recent weeks, Woodside has held supplier briefings in Houston and Europe, and is heading through the Asia-Pacific region at present, said sources.

The company is expected to initiate a design competition later in the year to compare a semi-­submersible production platform against a FPSO.
