Two left standing in the race for Abadi contracts

Abadi double: two consortia will fight it out to take part in FEED studies for Inpex’s Abadi project off Indonesia

The race to participate in front-end engineering and design studies for Inpex’s Abadi floating liquefied natural gas unit in the Masela block off Indonesia is understood to be down to two consortia after a third group bowed out during the tender process.

Inpex initially received technical bids from three groups for engineering studies on the 2.5-million-tonne-per-annum Abadi floater.

The bidding consortia initially pre-qualified were Chiyoda with Saipem and Hyundai Heavy Industries, JGC with Technip and Samsung Heavy Industries, ­Foster-Wheeler with the Petrofac-IKPT joint venture and STX Offshore & Shipbuilding

However, the third group represented by Petrofac-IKPT in Indonesia is understood to have withdrawn from the tender several weeks ago, although this has not been made official.

The reasons for the group’s withdrawal remain unclear, but industry sources suggested the consortium members may have reached the decision…
