MALAYSIA’S state-owned Petronas Carigali has started a pre-qualification exercise for the development of a pair of gas discoveries in Block SK 316 to feed the ninth train at the liquefied natural gas complex in Bintulu, Sarawak.

The pre-qualification exercise confirms an Upstream report in July that Petronas is pushing on with the proposed development of the NC3 and NC8 gas discoveries in the offshore block.

Petronas was understood to be concurrently carrying out an extensive yard survey in Asia as Upstream went to press, sparking speculation the greenfield development at Block SK 316 will be another Petronas-operated project lined up for tender to regional players outside Malaysia.
