ONGC hits the market with tenders for six rigs

India’s state-owned Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has approached the market with multiple tenders for offshore rigs for domestic contracts of two to three years’ duration.

ONGC has invited bids and expressions of interest for six units — four jack-ups, a drillship or semi-submersible able to operate in a water depth of 600 feet and a drillship for operations in a water depth of 1400 metres.

These tenders have been long delayed, said sources.

“For the past year or so ONGC had not initiated any major offshore rig hiring exercise. Many issues had to be sorted out by ONGC which are now clear,” a source said.
