Marcellus settlement

Many landowners in north-east Pennsylvania, US, who claimed that the Marcellus shale development polluted their drinking water are settling their lawsuit against the operator of the nearby wells.

Residents in Dimock, Pennsylvania had sued Cabot Oil & Gas, claiming that its natural gas wells had leaked and contaminated their drinking water wells.

Rounds of testing by the company, state regulators and, most recently, federal regulators failed to find harmful levels of chemicals related to drilling.

Most of those residents are preparing to settle their lawsuit against Cabot, according to local reports.

The settlement amount is being kept confidential.
