Vicksburg and other opportunities bode well for area hub

Shell and Nexen have additional discoveries and opportunities in the immediate Appomattox area that could keep the planned hub busy for an extended period, writes Blake Wright.

The Vicksburg discovery in DeSoto Canyon blocks 353 and 397 and Mississippi Canyon block 393 — about six miles east of Appomattox — was drilled to a depth of 25,400 feet in 2007 and hit a hydrocarbon column of about 300 feet. A sidetrack appraisal of the Vicksburg find is planned later this year. Shell operates Vicksburg with a 75% working interest, and Nexen holds the remaining 25% stake.

The duo also has the unappraised Shiloh natural gas find in DeSoto Canyon Block 269.
