Petrobras looks at drillstem test at Carcara pre-salt

Brazilian oil giant Petrobras is studying the possibility of carrying out a drill-stem test at the Carcara pre-salt discovery in the fourth quarter, as it tries to obtain more information on a potentially giant carbonate reservoir in Block BM-S-8 in the Santos basin.

Petrobras and its block partners Galp Energia, Queiroz Galvao ­Exploration & Production (QGEP) and Barra Energia have so far encountered a major oil column of more than 400 metres of 31 ­degrees API crude at Carcara with excellent permo-porosity characteristics.

The consortium is drilling Carcara in 2027 metres of water with the cylindrical semi-submersible rig Sevan Driller.

The programme is at a measured depth of about 6250 metres, still inside the oil zone, and is ­expected to reach a final depth of about 6500 metres in September.
