Statoil gets ready to roll at Sverdrup

NORWEGIAN operator Statoil has a project team of up to 80 people working on its landmark Johan Sverdrup field as it considers plans for a first development phase that will be centred around a large processing platform and additional structures.

The company has decided that it will pursue a steel jacket solution for the platforms, after ruling out floater and concrete base options, Oivind Reinertsen, Statoil’s project manager for the development, told Upstream.

The first phase is set to involve a single processing platform and possibly one or more wellhead platforms. How many installations will be needed depends on the number and location of production wells, which will not be decided until next year, Reinertsen said.
