Romney's decentralising energy plan sparks approval — and anger

US presidential hopeful Mitt Romney wants to put federal lands control in the hands of the states as part of his energy plan that aims to create energy independence for America by 2020, writes Blake Wright.

Romney’s plan empowers states to control onshore energy development within their borders and open offshore areas for exploration.

“We have an unprecedented opportunity to make our natural resources a long-term source of competitive advantage for our nation,” said Romney.

“If we develop these resources to the fullest, we will not only guarantee ourselves an affordable and reliable supply of energy, but also enjoy benefits throughout our economy.”

Romney said the plan will create more than three million jobs, including over one million in manufacturing, and will also add more than $1 trillion in revenue…
