Jubilant vows to keep Manipur drive on track

Indian independent Jubilant Energy has pledged to forge ahead with exploration on its onshore acreage in Manipur in north-east India, despite moves from non-governmental organisations to disrupt work in this underexplored area, which the company believes has good hydrocarbon potential.

Jubilant chief executive Ajay Khandelwal said the company is working closely with the Manipur state government to ensure the smooth progress of its exploration work on blocks AA-ONN-2009/1 and AA-ONN-2009/2, which it was awarded in 2010.

Protesters have had their say at consultation meetings in communities near the planned explor­ation sites on the acreage, which is believed to cover almost 4000 square kilometres in three districts of Manipur.

One such meeting was cancelled because of the protests, while NGOs had earlier forced Jubilant to halt seismic acquisition on one of the two blocks.
