Carrizo spuds in New York to test Marcellus

Carrizo Oil & Gas has spudded a stratigraphic test well in southern New York to assess the Marcellus shale formation — despite a continued ban on multi-stage hydraulic fracturing there. The Wetterling 1 well will be a vertical probe drilled north-east of the town of Owego to a depth of about 4500 feet.
