Origin in restart at BassGas

Origin Energy has restarted production at the BassGas project off the south-east Australian coast following a 10-month shutdown that failed to meet all its goals.

Production was suspended in late 2011 for an enhancement project that included upgrading the Yolla platform to a manned facility and installing compression and condensate pumping modules.

An accommodation module was added, but not the compression and condensate modules.

In addition, a cost overrun of 20%-plus was incurred, bringing the price of the enhancement project to between A$550 million (US$574.5 million) and A$580 million.

Origin had targeted a new attempt at installing the compression facilities this summer, but in its latest update it said this would not happen.
