Total on way back at Elgin

TOTAL is laying the groundwork for a gradual restart of production at its Elgin-Franklin field in the North Sea about the turn of the year, writes Rob Watts.

Total is aiming to submit a revised Safety Case to UK regulators about the end of November, according to a senior source close to the company.

“That is the objective,” said the source.

The Safety Case document needs approval by the UK Health & Safety Executive (HSE) so it is satisfied it is safe to restart operations at the central North Sea facility, which has been shut-in since a blowout on the G4 well led to a major gas leak in March.
