Eni back drilling in Libya

Italian major Eni has resumed onshore exploration drilling in Libya with a well in the EPSA 4 contract Area A won in 2008.

The well — At-108/4, in the Sirte basin 300 kilometres south of Benghazi — will be drilled to a depth of 14,500 feet and will test a new geological play, Eni said.

Eni, the biggest single player in Libya, was among the first companies to return after the fall of Muammar Gaddafi last year.

“The exploration well is the first of an onshore drilling programme, which is set to continue into 2013, and it marks another important step in resuming all of Eni’s exploration and production activities in Libya,” the company said.
