Leading Russian players prepare to bid for blocks in Siberia

Some of Russia’s leading oil companies aim to bid for three large blocks in Siberia that are due to auctioned this month, writes Vladimir Afanasiev.

Natural Resources Minister Sergei Donskoy said Rosneft, Gazpromneft, Lukoil, Surgutneftegaz and Status have filed applications to bid for the Imilorsky block in the Khanty-Mansiysk autonomous region in West Siberia. Status is an investment subsidiary of Gazprombank, in which Gazprom has a minority interest.

Imilorskoye will be auctioned on 25 December and holds the Imilorskoye, West Imilorskoye and Istochnoye fields with estimated recoverable reserves of 1.4 billion barrels of oil.

Authorities are asking for a starting bonus of about $830 million. Rosneft, Surgutneftegaz and Status also plan to take part in the 18 December…
