Bid to export US LNG

Australia-based LNG Ltd has filed an application with US regulators to export up to 4 million tonnes per annum of US-sourced liquefied natural gas from the Louisiana coast in the latest of a raft of applications to send shale gas abroad.

LNG Ltd subsidiary Magnolia LNG has applied to the US Department of Energy for permission to export LNG to countries that have a free-trade agreement with the US.

The move is the first step in an approval process that includes asking for permission to export to countries that do not hold such agreements and, finally, permission to construct the facility.
