Decision time for Hansteen

Norwegian player Statoil and its partners ended last year with investment decisions on three major North Sea developments worth a combined $17 billion, writes Beate Schjolberg.

Within the next week, decision time is coming up for another large project, Aasta Hansteen in the Norwegian Sea.

Aasta Hansteen is pioneering in several ways — by extending Norway’s gas pipeline network north across the Polar Circle, by being the country’s first development in waters deeper than 1000 metres, and by using the world’s largest spar platform.

Energy Minister Ola Borten Moe was crystal clear last month when he strongly urged Statoil and its partners OMV and ConocoPhillips to put a development plan on his desk without delay.
