Petrofac puts out tender for first pipelay vessel

UK-listed Petrofac has issued a tender for the construction of its first offshore construction vessel, in a bid to build the transportation and installation capabilities required to bid for turnkey contracts stemming from deep-water oil and gas developments.

Petrofac first signalled its ambition by hiring several ex-Saipem executives to boost the talent pool available to carry out offshore oil and gas projects.

The UK player is understood to have approached the market before Christmas through Dutch vessel design house Ulstein Sea of Solutions, calling for price quotations on a high-specification deep-water pipelay vessel, DLV 5000.

DLV 5000 will be built to the ­Ulstein SOC 5000 design and will be equipped with a DP3 system also designed by the Dutch outfit.
