US independent Noble Energy is preparing the groundwork to award up to four separate transport and installation contracts this year for the first phase of its huge 17 trillion cubic foot Leviathan gas project off Israel.

Noble approached subsea construction players late last year with a view to selecting at least two contractors, probably this quarter, to submit firm prices for one or more transport and installation packages, said sources.

Located in 1300 metres of water, Leviathan will be developed in stages as domestic and export markets for its gas are established.
