Pipeline route call is closer

The BP-led Shah Deniz 2 consortium has moved closer to selecting a pipeline route to Europe and has set a slightly delayed target date of 2018 for first gas from the field off Azerbaijan, writes Kama Mustafayeva.

“We will target 2018 for first gas, and over the next 18 months Shah Deniz plans to make commitments to spend $10 billion on this project,” BP Azerbaijan vice president Al Cook said.

Shah Deniz 2 had originally set late 2017 as a target date, though Azeri state-owned Socar’s managing director Rovnag Abdullayev recently said the gas would not reach Europe until the second quarter of 2018.

The Shah Deniz consortium is in the preliminary stages of awarding contracts for subsea trees, wellhead equipment, construction of jackets and topsides of two offshore platforms,…
