Daewoo and Dragados net Bressay contracts

South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering and Spain’s Dragados Offshore are set to be formally awarded major new contracts for Statoil’s $5.5 billion Bressay heavy oil project in the UK North Sea.

Daewoo is understood to have secured a 1.728 trillion South Korea Won ($1.59 billion) contract to provide a 31,000-tonne topsides for Bressay’s fixed platform.

Meanwhile, Dragados is set to build the 18,000-tonne jacket, as well as at least 7000 tonnes of piles.

To allow Statoil an early start on development drilling, the jacket is set to be delivered in the first half of 2016, while the deck is scheduled for delivery in January 2017.

First oil from Bressay is expected in early 2018, with output anticipated to average about 55,000 barrels per day.
