Inpex poised for Abadi advance

Japanese operator Inpex has taken a decisive step forward with the second development phase of the Abadi liquefied natural gas project off Indonesia by going to the engineering ­ market for independent feasibility studies.

A larger floating LNG vessel is on the cards for the second phase, and sources said Inpex is receptive to a whole range of production facilities, and not necessarily the larger FLNG vessel.

Inpex has issued a bid document for feasibility studies, and bids are due in the coming weeks.

Amec, Fluor with Singgar Mulia, Wood Group, Saipem, Technip, WorleyParsons, as well as Indonesia’s Tripatra, are likely to be among the bidders in a few weeks time.

Inpex has made no secret of its interest in embarking on stage two of Abadi.
