In many respects, NOV’s ultra-high pressure blowout preventer resembles its 15,000 psi predecessor. It calls on the same standard configurable stack sizes as the manufacturer’s 15,000 psi BOP. And like the earlier unit, the 20,000 psi BOP uses a boltless door.
“The technology for 20,000 psi is also being developed for 15,000 psi. There’s a lot of parallel stuff there,” says Frank Springett, vice president and general manager of pressure control group operations at NOV.
