Together with Enthought, Weatherford labs is participating in the study led by scientists at The University of Texas at Austin and Imperial College London of a 2725-foot (830-metre) core recovered from the central area of the Chicxulub Crater beneath the Yucatan Peninsula. The dual-energy CT scanning uses medical-grade scanners adapted for analysing cores drilled as part of oil and gas exploration.
Preserving prehistory
Weatherford Labs is carrying out dual-energy computerised tomography (CT) scanning of a core recovered from a crater in the Gulf of Mexico that scientists believe may have been created by the same asteroid that led to a mass extinction event 66 million years ago.
