Petronas Carigali has plugged and abandoned as a dry hole the Halong-1X exploration well off northern Vietnam.

Oil and gas shows were encountered, but a drillstem test did not recover any hydrocarbons, said partner Singapore Petroleum Company.

It is the second exploration well for the Petronas-led joint venture in Blocks 102 and 106 in the Song Hong Basin.

The first exploration well in the tract, Yentu-1X, was drilled in late 2004 and resulted in the discovery of an unknown amount of oil and gas.

Petronas' partners are PetroVietnam Investment and Development Company (PIDC), SPC and ATI Petroleum.
