Victoria sees more oil at Growler

By Upstream staff

Victoria Petroleum has said that it has hit more oil pay at its Growler-1 exploration well in South Australia.

The company said that oil shows had been observed during drilling from 1728 metres to 1754 metres in the basal Birkhead sands.

It added that an earlier drill stem test over an interval of between 1728 metres and 1737 metres had flowed oil at a rate of about 400 barrels per day.

Victoria is currently drilling the well towards the Hutton and Poolowanna sand targets.

Company managing director John Kopcheff said: “The oil recovery from the basal Birkhead is very encouraging, as it is the first oil recovery this far west of the previous Callabonna oil recovery 16 kilometres to the north-east.

“Growler-1 is also an important well for Victoria as it is the first well in a ten well exploration drilling program to take place over the next six months in Victoria’s South Australian and Queensland Cooper Basin Permits.”

Partners in South Australia’s PEL 104 are operator Victoria (40%), Impress Ventures (40%) and Roma Petroleum (20%).
