London-listed independent IGas Energy has revealed that logs from a breakthrough UK shale discovery could potentially double pre-drill estimates at the play - and is now seeking a farm-in partner.

The explorer recently hit a “very significant shale section” of at least 1000 feet deep during coalbed methane drilling operations at the Ince Marshes play onshore north-west England.

Logging data from the Ince Marshes-1 well have now shown “encouraging results” and could at least double the previous pre-drill estimate for the Bowland Shale of 4.6 trillion cubic feet of gas in place, the company said in a statement.

“We understand the same Bowland Shale in neighbouring licences has been flow tested at rates exceeding many results seen elsewhere in Europe,” it stated.
