Production has finally gotten under way at the Lybster oilfield in the UK North Sea, according to partner Trap Oil.

The field in Block 11/24, operated by Caithness Oil, was targeted by Trap to come on stream at the end of last year but was only brought online this week after final installation and commissioning of production facilities.

The field in the Inner Moray Firth off northern Scotland, discovered by Premier Oil in 1986 but deemed uncommercial to develop, is being exploited via an extended reach well drilled from an onshore location.

Produced oil is being sold to ConocoPhillips at its Immingham refinery.
