Rig giant in $650m order for harsh-environment rig

Norwegian rig giant Seadrill has inked a $650 million turnkey deal with Hyundai Samho Shipyard for a harsh-environment semi-submersible newbuild, saying an option for a second unit is also likely to be exercised due to strong demand.

The rig will be a sister unit to the Moss CS60-design semisub that subsidiary North Atlantic Drilling has ordered at Singapore’s Jurong Shipyard at a cost of $568 million, with an available option for a second unit.
