New probes in sights off Norway

Keeping busy: semisub Ocean Vanguard

Norway explorers Statoil and Lundin Petroleum are reportedly preparing to spud a series of wells over the coming months spanning the country’s offshore play.

First up will be a probe at the Geitungen prospect that will be spudded next month as one of two wells to be drilled by Statoil in the vicinity of the giant Johan Sverdrup field using Diamond Offshore semi-submersible Ocean Vanguard, according to Oilinfo.no.

The 16/2-12 well will be drilled in about 115 metres of water in Statoil-operated Production Licence 265 on a structure in the Draupne formation lying between Espevaer and Aldous Major North, where an earlier probe came up dry, with drilling expected start at the end of June and last about 39 days.
