Through the Hoop: Statoil in Barents Sea

Statoil has accelerated its plans for drilling in a new frontier area of the Barents Sea, with wells on a pair of prospects set to be spudded next year.

The explorer has now identified two targets – named Apollo and Atlantis – in its operated Production Licence 615 in a virgin play dubbed Hoop that is located north-east of its Skrugard and Havis discoveries, senior vice president for exploration Norway, Gro Gunleiksrud Haatvedt, told a company seminar this week.

Earlier 3D seismic acquired over the area in the southern Barents, about 250 kilometres north of Soroya island, has revealed several prospective geological strata at Hoop.
