BP has launched production from the three-field Galapagos development in the deep-water Gulf of Mexico as it brings on stream one of a series of new projects due for start-up this year.

The three fields -  Isabela, Santiago and Santa Cruz – are being exploited using subsea facilities tied back via a flowline loop to the BP-operated Na Kika host platform located about 225 kilometres south of New Orleans in 6500 feet of water.

Production is set to ramp up towards the end of this month from the Na Kika facility, which has output capacity of 130,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day and has been modified to handle output from the three fields.
