Sargas eyes new generation in carbon capture

Sargas is looking to develop a gas-fired power plant in Norway with an integrated carbon capture facility to harness CO2 for enhanced oil recovery in the country’s offshore sector.

The Norwegian technology company launched its ambitious plan on Tuesday to build the 450-megawatt plant at Elnesvaagen in the More & Romsdal region after forging an alliance for technical and commercial co-operation with US industrial giant GE, which will supply gas turbines for the project.

It is making the move despite doubts over the commercial viability, and possible health risks, of carbon capture technology that has been developed by compatriot Aker Clean Carbon for a recently opened test facility at the Mongstad plant on Norway’s west coast.
