Bulgaria 'bids in hat' for deep gas

A trio of bidders, including ExxonMobil, are reported to have submitted offers for a Bulgarian offshore block as the country targets deep-water gas resources in the Black Sea following a major find by the US giant off neighbour Romania.

ExxonMobil has filed an offer to carry out exploration at the 15,000 square-kilometre Khan Asparuh deep-water block, which is located close to the huge Domino-1 gas discovery in Romanian waters made by the company and Austrian partner OMV earlier this year.

UK-based Melrose Resources, already developing a number of smaller gas fields on the Black Sea shelf, and French supermajor Total have also placed bids, Bulgaria’s Energy Minister Delyan Dobrev told an energy forum, according to Reuters.
