Kvaerner yard boss steps down

The boss of Norway’s Kvaerner Verdal yard has resigned with immediate effect, with the company citing an “unsatisfactory” safety performance in its jackets fabrication business after an accident at the facility earlier this year.

Three workers were seriously injured at the yard after falling from a crane lift when the vehicle’s jib collapsed while carrying out an inspection of a windmill jacket in the February accident.

Kvaerner said in a statement following a probe into the incident that it “could have been avoided if more safety barriers had been in place, been more precise and been followed”.

Yard president and vice president for the jackets business area Nina Udnes Tronstad stepped down from both positions this week, Kvaerner said in a statement.
