Norwegian operators are bracing for possible strike action that could halt output at a pair of platforms if state mediation talks, which started on Friday, fail to resolve a tariff dispute.

A deadline of midnight on 23 June has been set for an agreement to be reached in the pensions row between industry association OLF and trade unions Industri Energi, SAFE and Lederne.

However, failure to achieve a deal would result in a strike by 708 workers that would hit operations at the Statoil-operated producing fields Oseberg and Heidrun, as well as BP’s Skarv FPSO and accommodation unit Floatel Superior.

OLF has estimated that a production stoppage at the two fields would cost around Nkr170 million ($28.4 million) in lost income.
