Name change for Methanol Australia

By Russell Searancke

Methanol Australia has changed its name to MEO Australia to reflect a broader focus to its projects.

The company has been toiling for years on the Tassie Shoal methanol project, to be sited in shallow water north of Darwin, Australia. But MEO still needs feedstock gas.

For this reason, MEO took on 100% of exploration Block NT/P68 in the Timor Sea, and intends to drill up to three wells in the third quarter of this year.

"The manufacture of methanol is no longer the sole focus of the company," said managing director Chris Hart.

"The company has expanded its focus to include exploration and appraisal ... as well as the development of an offshore LNG production facility. We now can see the possibility of significant natural gas and condensate production from NT/P68."

Seadrill's newbuild jack-up West Atlas will drill MEO's wells. The rig is due to be delivered to the Heron-2 location in late August, MEO added.
