Australia's Gorgon joint venturers have been awarded a new exploration block in water depths of about 1000 metres off the north-west coast of Australia, writes Russell Searancke.
Block W06-12 is in the Carnarvon basin and covers an area of 3000 square kilometres.
The three-year work programme includes geotechnical studies, 180 kilometres of 2D seismic reprocessing, 1700 square kilometres of 3D acquisition and the drilling of one exploration well. Seismic work will begin this year.
