Gas provision:no decision made yet says Daewoo
Daewoo quashes Burma gas claims
South Korea's Daewoo International has denied news reports that Burma had decided to sell its gas from Daewoo-operated fields to China via pipeline.
"We are still considering both liquefied natural gas and pipeline methods and we aim to choose the final buyer in the second quarter of this year," a Daewoo spokesman told Reuters.
South Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo reported earlier that gas from Burma's A-1 and A-3 gas fields would be sold to China using pipeline delivery, quoting an unnamed official from Seoul’s Energy Ministry.
"The only thing left at the moment is price negotiation between Burma and China," said the source, adding that China had already agreed to build pipelines free of cost to Burma.
Korea and Japan have been pushing for Burma to develop LNG facilities while energy-hungry neighbours China, India and Thailand are all calling for pipelines.
