Victoria Petroleum said today it had hit oil at the Wirraway-1 well in Block PEL 104 of the South Australia Cooper basin.
Victoria said the operation had tested good oil shows in target sands between 1725 and 1732 metres.
Wirraway-1 is the first well to be drilled by the PEL 104 joint venture and is scheduled to be drilled to total depth of 1991 metres.
Victoria’s managing director John Kopcheff said the company was encouraged by the oil shows seen in its initial drilling at PEL 104, adding that exploration success at Wirraway-1 would further confirm Victoria’s belief that a new oil production province could be present in the area.
Victoria is the operator at Wirraway-1 and PEL 104 with a 40% working interest. Its joint venture partners are Impress Energy (40%) and Roma Petroleum (20%).
