Victoria ready to test Wirraway-1

By Upstream staff

Australia’s Victoria Petroleum said today it was preparing the Wirraway-1 well in South Australia’s Cooper basin for short-term production testing after having cemented production casing at a depth of 1818 metres.

Testing will start once surface testing equipment is in placed, Victoria said.

Following the completion of Wirraway-1, the drilling rig will move to start drilling at the Growler-2 appraisal well, 4.7 kilometres south-east of Wirraway-1.

“Victoria Petroleum is pleased to have recovered oil in the open hole drill stem test of the 17 metre gross oil column in the target Birkenhead sands in Wirraway-1 and to now be completing the well as an oil producer,” Victoria managing director John Kopcheff said.

Wirraway-1 is the first well drilled by Victoria as part of the PEL 104 joint venture.

Victoria has a 40% operating interest in the joint venture, alongside Impress Energy (40%) and Roma Petroleum (20%).
